In this world of new and emerging health and fitness trends, it seems like there’s a new product every other week that claims to be able to help you shed the pounds instantly. While most of these miracle products are nothing more than a scam, there are actually a few incredible ingredients out there that could add something special to your weight loss routine.

What is Garcinia Cambogia?

The first question we need to ask if we’re going to get to the bottom of what this supplemental substance is all about, is “what is Garcinia Cambogia?” the simple answer is that it’s a small fruit that’s traditional consumed as a kind of post-meal snack, to keep food cravings to a minimum.

It’s the impact that this fruit has had on satiety that has led to it being used as a dietary supplement. However, experts are asking whether it was the components of the fruit itself that helped people to lose weight by cutting down on their appetite or the fact that the tart taste of the substance cleansed their palate and prevented them from going back for second helpings.

If the taste of the fruit is the reason behind its fat-burning powers, then it makes sense that the pills wouldn’t do anything to promote fat loss or teach us how to get rid of belly fat. Unfortunately, the fruit was marketed before any scientists had managed to come to a conclusion about whether it could burn fat or not!

Since then, Garcinia Cambogia has been marketed as a dietary supplement that claims it’s capable of reducing fat and limiting appetite, even though there’s very little scientific research that supports such claims. In other words, you may want to check the science before you decide this solution is right for helping you to achieve your goals.

The Science Behind Garcinia Cambogia

Most studies into Garcinia Cambogia look at either the fruit itself, or a substance within the fruit known as HCA. A lot of dietary professionals think that good supplements featuring Garcinia Cambogia need about 60% HCA to be effective.

According to studies on rats and mice, the effects of HCA are pretty incredible. In fact, any food with a large HCA content is capable of reducing bodyweight in a reliable and powerful way. The substance limits food cravings and inhibits the creation of fat cells.

At the same time, researchers have confirmed that HCA can prevent fat creation using a process called de novo lipogenesis, which refers to the creation of fat from non-fat sources like carbohydrates. When consuming Garcinia Cambogia, the HCA stops an enzyme from working called ATP citrate which prevents this process from happening.

The only problem is that the supplement might be great for helping rats to lose weight, but the chances are that it won’t do much for people. Since there isn’t much of a market out there for rodent supplements, the whole thing is pretty useless.

The Truth about Garcinia Cambogia

The only way we can truly determine whether Garcinia Cambogia will have a positive impact on human weight is to look at studies that were conducted on human subjects. Unfortunately, the evidence that we have from research into human participants doesn’t look great. In fact, one study after another shows absolutely no impact on appetite or weight loss when people consume HCA and Garcinia Cambogia supplements.

So, the question becomes, if this substance was so powerful for preventing obesity and improving weight loss in rats and mice, why doesn’t it work for human beings too? The simple answer is that humans are built differently to rodents. When rats consume food, they gain body fat pretty quickly, because the process of creating fat is very important.

However, when humans eat food, they usually store fat as fat, and glucose as glucose. This means that the process is much more limited with us than it is with rats. At the end of the day, the different ways that our bodies work mean that something that works for our four-legged friends, won’t necessarily be effective for us.

In fact, there’s a good chance that Garcinia Cambogia is simply another of those over-hyped solutions that are designed to make you spend lots of money to lose weight easily – without any real scientific research. Which HCA is still a molecule that can be useful for helping with lipid interactions and glycogen replenishment, the majority of the research shows that for weight loss, this substance simply isn’t powerful enough to have any kind of significant effect.

Ultimately, as nice as it would be to simply eat a fruit after your meal and cut down on your weight loss for the rest of the day, life is rarely that simple. Garcinia Cambogia was yet another fruit jumped on by marketing gurus before the scientific study came through to suggest whether it was effective or not.

While some studies indicate limited performance here and there, the majority of the research into this supplement indicates that it’s simply not powerful enough to do anything reliable for body composition or fat loss.
